The North India Leg of “Flame of Truth” relay completed in Chandigarh and torch handed over to Puruwala Tibetan settlement

As per report received from Mr. Pema Jungney, the member of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, on 31st August, 2012, in the morning around 6.00 am, the “Flame of Truth” torch relay left from Ludhiana and at around 11.00 am, he handed over the “Flame of Truth” torch to the President of Local Tibetan Freedom Movement Committee and the President of Local Tibetan Youth Congress. A function was held at Kalabhawan hall in Sector 16. For the function, the Chief Guest was 84 year old, Shri Balram ji Das Tandon, an ex-Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh. Other guests were Dr. Arvind Thakur, International Human Rights Councilor & Solicitor International Member-Amnesty International London Member-International Bar Association (U.K) Member: Anti Corruption Committee of IBA, Mr. Rajenduren Chettiyar, the Chief co-ordinator of BJP Election Committee and the Director, Keshab Co-operative Society, and Mr. Rajinder Sharma, the member of BJP and others.

In the beginning of the function, Mr. Pema Jungney made an introductory speech about the aims and objectives of this event. Later, Dr. Arvind Thakur, Mr. Rajenduren Chettiyar and the Chief Guest gave speeches in support of the cause of Tibet. The Chief Guest held up the “Flame of Truth” torch in sky and gave signature on the petition followed by other guests and participants.

After the function, the Torch relay Committee members according to assigned areas carried the torch to Sector 15, Sector 17 and Punjab University and received signatures from the public.

On 1st September 2012, Mr. Pema Jungney and two other members received signatures of high officials by going door to door. On 2nd September 2012, after the ceremony of Tibetan Democracy day anniversary, they went to Sector 37 and at the BJP office received signatures of many important officials on the petition. Later, in the afternoon at 3.00 pm, they made a peaceful march carrying the “Flame of Truth” torch from Punjab University to Sector 17. They shouted slogans at Sector 17 and concluded the torch relay.

On 3rd September, short and long news coverages are given in most newspapers on the “Flame of Truth” relay. Around 11.00 am, four University students left from there carrying the “Flame of Truth” torch to hand it over to Puruwala.
